Have you ever taken the time to think about the things in your life that have happened? I mean really sat down and thought about everything. Things like people who have made a difference in your life. It could be a neighbor, a close friend or even a boyfriend or girlfriend. People come and go in our lives everyday, but the ones we remember are the ones that have had an impact in our lives. This isn't just another one of those sappy love stories, but the story of one person who had a huge impact in my life.
Let me introduce myself, my name is Cindy McFearson. I'm 16 going on 17. I live with my parents, 2 brothers and our Golden Retriever Bella in Ohio. My mum is a teacher and my dad is a computer analyst. My two brothers, Dustin and Ryan are older than me. Dustin is 21 and Ryan is 23. Being the youngest of the family has its pros and cons though. Being 16, I still don't have my drivers license or my permit, but that doesn't matter because I can ride horses everyday after school. I'll take horses over a car any day! Now, enough about me! Let me tell you about "The One Who Left". Let me warn you, if you are sensitive or hate sad stories, then you might want to put this down and walk away. I'm sorry to say that this story doesn't have a happy ending. So if you are looking for a happy ending, then put this story down and walk away. If you really don't care and just like to read, then continue to read this story.
My story begins way back in my 7th grade year of school. He was tall and nerdy. I kept telling myself I wasn't going to be friends with him....Well I broke my rule. I went up to him after school and tried to talk to him. I had no idea what I was going to say to him. All these thoughts started running through my mind. "What do I say to him?" "What if he doesn't want to talk to me?" This is exactly why I don't like going up to new people. Especially people like him.
"Okay Cindy." I said to myself "You can do this. Just walk up to him and say hi." I took a deep breath and walked up to him.
"Ummmm....H-h-h-hi" I said softly. He turned around and stared at me with his brown eyes.
"Hi." His voice was soft and mesmerizing. He was like an angel that fell from Heaven. Just in a nerdy sort of way.
"I-I-I-I'm Cindy."
"I'm Blake."
"What are you doing here after school?" I asked him
"I have band practice. It takes up most of my time but it keeps me happy."
His name is Blake and he is in band?!?! Am I dead?! Someone pinch me! I think I'm falling in love with a nerdy band kid!!! Whyyyyyyyyy!?!?!?!
"Oh, that's cool. How long have you been in band?"
"About three years. I started in 5th grade. Do you play an instrument?"
"No, I've always wanted to play the clarinet but my family doesn't have the money to pay for it."
I told him all about my dream of one day being the world's best clarinet player and then opening up a music store that allows kids who don't have the money to be in band to join band and be able to take free lessons.
"Wow! That sounds awesome! Maybe the band teacher here will let you join. I mean, if you still want to."
Is this really happening?! I can't believe it! Maybe the band director won't let me join. Say no, say no, say no! I thought to myself
"Yeah, that sounds great!" Great, I just signed myself up for something I can't handle. "Ummm...Where is the band room at here?" I asked Blake
"Follow me. Mr. Connick should still be here to ask if you could join band."
Great. I followed him through the winding halls, up steps and twisting and turning through more halls.
"How far is the band room?"
Blake turned around and looked at me with his gorgeous eyes.
"About a five minute walk from where we were. Don't worry, the walk is worth it. Trust me."
How can I trust you if I just met you? Uggh! I have gotten myself in way too deep this time.
"What is that sound it sounds like dying cats!?"
"Oh, that? It is just the trumpets. Don't worry. I promise no animals are harmed during practice." Blake said giggling
"How many members of the band are there?"
"About 85 students make up band. There are six trumpets, two trombones, thirty-two flutes, fifteen clarinets, four tubas, ten alto saxophones, five French horns, three baritones, two bari saxophones, and six pit members. Do you think you can handle all of us?"
I looked at him and then looked around me at my surroundings. Was I ready for this? What was I getting myself into?
"Yeah, I think I can do this." I said to Blake
"Okay. Then let me show you around the band room."
He walked up to two metal doors and opened one of them.
"Welcome to the band room Cindy." He said
I walk through the doors and was amazed at what I saw. In the band room there were trophies on every wall, stands and chairs scattered here and there and some stacked by the wall, two storage rooms, one upstairs and one under that, and pictures of years past.
"Wow! This is incredible! There is so much room in here! You could fit two-hundred people in here!"
"Yeah, thing is, with eighty people plus chairs, stands and instruments it gets crowded. It looks big now, but just wait till you see all of us in here. Come on, let's go see if Mr. Connick is in his office."
"You mean there is more?!?!" I said dropping my jaw.
"Yeah. You just saw part of it." Blake said giggling.
I followed Blake to Mr. Connick's office. He knocked on the door and walked into his office.
"Mr. Connick?"
"Yes Blake? I'm in my office. Come on in."
Blake and I walked into his office and Mr. Connick turns and looks at us.
"Who is this Blake?"
"Well, Mr. Connick. This is Cindy McFearson. She would like to be in band. I was wanting to know if she was able to join."
I didn't know what to do, so I just smiled at Mr. Connick.
"Do you play an instrument?" Mr. Connick asked me
"Ummmm..." I gulped and looked at Blake "No sir I don't. I have always wanted to play since 5th grade though."
"Why didn't you start in 5th grade?"
I looked down at my feet then looked at Mr. Connick.
"We didn't have the money to be in band." I said looking back down at my feet
"Are you willing to work hard every day?"
"Yes sir! I will do anything it takes to earn a place in this band."
Mr. Connick looked over to Blake and he nodded his head.
"Okay, I will have Blake teach you. You need to be here Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school. "
"Okay thank you sir!"
I walked out with Blake when Mr. Connick called my name
"Cindy!"
I turned around and looked at him
"Yes sir?"
"What instrument do you want to play?"
"Clarinet sir." I said and walked out of his office
As I was walking out of his office I turned and looked back ant him and saw him start to smile.

"Today is going to be a great day" I said as I got out of bed.
I don't know what happened the other day but I'm sure that I will find out sometime today as i get to school. I slightly remember Blake and Mr. Connick, but what happened with them I don't remember.
